Nationwide Louvre Company save the bells
Nationwide Louvre Company designed, manufactured and installed double bank weather louvres with motorised heavy duty shut off dampers to the bell tower at Dublin Cathedral.
The double bank louvres reduced the possibility of water ingress, but due to the very exposed location of the louvres, heavy duty shut off damper with a closure rate of 99.9% shut off were fitted.
The dampers were fitted with fail safe (spring return) actuators that allowed each of the elevations to be opened or closed separately.
This was of particular interest to the architect (Mr John Baumont), as the Cathedral were able to close off the louvres whilst bell ringing practice took place reducing the effect the bells had on local residents during the week.
